By Kimberly Juchnowski on August 20, 2010
You hear it time and time again, without fail. An excited young backpacker is telling people about the amazing trip they are about to go on for the next 6 weeks and they ramble off a list of 10-13 different cities, often spread over several different

Visiting Thailand’s Ancient Capitals

Visit Thailand’s ancient capitals to steep yourself in the grandeur of a time long past. Sukhothai and Ayuthaya are today UNESCO World Heritage Sites and monuments to Thailand’s rich history. Although many of the capital buildings are now in ruins, enough remains to illustrate the beauty of these magnificent kingdoms. (more…)

Giant Crocodiles Outside Bangkok: The Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm

Grab your love’s hand as you walk over a pit of giant crocodiles. Watch your children squeal with delight as hungry jaws snap up chicken chunks and watch in awe as a man inserts his head into a crocodile’s mouth. The Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo, located just outside Bangkok, is well worth a tourist’s time. Quite possibly the largest crocodile farm in the world this wonder holds over 60,000 crocodiles. Funding the Thailand Dream: Teaching English as a Second Language

While not as exciting as swimming with whale sharks and teaching fat, lazy tourists how to breathe 30 meters below the ocean’s surface, teaching English brings you closer to true Thai culture than a divemaster will ever get. This is certainly a doable way to make it—and the first question I get whenever someone finds out I speak basic Thai, “You teach English?”.

I always flirted with the idea of teaching English as a foreign language before learning to make money online. It is truly a fantastic way to travel the world. But what is the English teacher lifestyle really like? Does it pay enough to make it worthwhile?

The White Temple: Step Into a Fairytale

Thailand is known for its hidden treasures, both natural and man-made.  Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you will walk around a corner and be thrown into shock by something unlike anything you have ever seen in your life.  One thing that did that for me and one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in Thailand, or anywhere else in the world for that matter, is a little-known temple just outside of Chiang Rai called The White Temple.  (more…)

Ultimate Muay Thai: A Glimpse of Thailand’s Heart

No trip to Thailand is complete without watching a traditional muay thai bout. Two opponents circle in the ring. A blistering heat upon the crowd. The punishing sound of flesh upon flesh—bone upon bone. “Oy! Oy!” Another arching elbow has found its mark.

Thailand lives and breathes muay thai, and it’s simply a must experience if you ever step onto this land. But what about experiencing it from the other side? What about LEARNING muay thai?

In Thailand, try as they might, Christian missionaries have spent the past two hundred years or so failing miserably at converting this happily Buddhist nation. (more…)
