Quyan Van Minh realized his passion for Jazz music whilst listening to American Radio and BBC during the Vietnam War.  As a young boy Minh took his first steps into the world of music, first studying classical guitar and then going on to play the clarinet.  A few years later he even began to play professionally in the Army Band. Minh’s love for jazz music led him to form him very own band, and by 1987 they had made their way to Berlin to perform in concert. Since their first big concert in Germany their passion has carried them to venues all across the globe.

At the National Conservatory of Music, Quyan Van Minh had the honor of being the first jazz/saxophone instructor. Following his passion from such a young age and immersing himself in the world of Jazz music Minh’s dream finally came to life when he opened Vietnam’s first Jazz club in Hanoi in 1997.

Minh’s Jazz Club is centrally located at 31 Luong Van Can Street in the heart of the Old Quarter, just across from the Northwest end of Hai Kiem Lake. The restaurant opens at 10am daily, and though it may not seem to busy during the day it does fill up quick once the live music starts which goes from 9-11:30pm every night. There is plenty of accommodation nearby, from budget guesthouses to luxury hotels. The nightlife in the Old Quarter is some of the best in the city and Minh’s Jazz club is defenitly a venue that should not be missed.

Even though it is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, the food and drink prices are very reasonably priced. The most expensive thing on the menu is wine by the glass which will cost you around $5USD with bottles ranging from $26-50USD. Expect to pay between $3.50-4.50USD for a cocktail, and beers go for around $2.50USD.  Highballs are around the $4USD mark and for those of you who enjoy a nice scotch, enjoy a Glenlivet for only $4.50USD! They have a very good selection of food that will run you  about $2-5USD. After enjoying the tantalizing food and soothing rhythm of the live music, take a piece of the club home with you! They sell a variety of souvenirs (even jackets and leather wallets) priced between $6-12USD.

Minh’s Jazz Club is one musical and dining experience you do not want to miss during your visit to the historically enchanting city of Hanoi!
